Most users use the Bylayer option when creating blocks (maybe because it is the default value).
But Byblock option enables you to create a block that you can change the color, linetype, or lineweight later on.

Setting each entity to Bylayer copies the properties of that layer once you inserted the block. Example of using Bylayer is if you have layer name say "Building" and the color is "cyan" and linetype is "hidden" then you have created a line which is in layer "0", color "Bylayer", and linetype "Bylayer" then you make it a block name "Beam". Once you insert this block in the drawing it copies the current layer properties, say current layer is Building then the color will be cyan and linetype is hidden. if you want to change the color you must change the layer color to change the block color. But in most cases we want the layer color and linetype to be fixed but enable us to change the color and linetype of blocks, this is then we need to choose the Byblock option instead of the Bylayer. To understand more the difference between the two, try to experiment by changing different options.
